“Manufacturing is more than just putting parts together. It’s coming up with ideas, testing principles and perfecting the engineering, as well as final assembly”
— James Dyson

DEVELOPMENT IS ALL ABOUT GETTING A FANTASTIC SAMPLE SO YOU ARE SET UP FOR A SMOOTH, SUCCESSFUL PRODUCTION RUN.

HERE ARE THE STEPS THAT WILL GET YOU THROUGH THIS PHASE:

SOURCING

WE CAN HELP YOU FIND QUALITY FABRICS AND TRIMS

High quality garments are made with high quality materials, and it is important that those materials reflect your brand’s identity. Your brand’s identity tells a story and helps to guide you while making your development decisions. Fabric picks play a key part in telling that story. We can help you select fabrics and trims that are not only high quality, but also fit within your brand’s budget. Also, we can help you find fabrics and trims from vendors whose values align with your brand’s own mission.

You will have the opportunity to source materials from our library during your Planning & Development Consultation. Click here to book one today!

TECH PACK CREATION

USE YOUR TECH PACK AS A COMMUNICATION TOOL

A Tech Pack is a “living” document that contains detailed information about a specific style. We like to think of the Tech Pack as a manual or blueprint-which will continue to evolve until the final prototype is approved. It will include information such as the style’s technical sketch, specification measurements, grading rules, seam construction, stitch and machine codes, labeling, color-ways, and packaging. The development and production history of any style can be recorded within a Tech Pack.

Creating a Tech Pack is an essential step in the development process and must be done before a pattern can be created.

PATTERNMAKING

WE DEVELOP OUR PATTERNS IN-HOUSE USING FLAT PATTERN DRAFTING OR DRAPING TECHNIQUES

We offer accurate pattern making for all types of garments using flat pattern drafting or draping techniques.

After a prototype is made, it will be sent to you for review. Once you approve the fabric type, fit, and construction of your prototype, we will digitize your pattern using Gerber Accumark Software and prepare it for grading.

PROTOTYPING

HAVE YOUR FIRST SAMPLE MADE

A prototype is the first sample made by your development team or manufacturer. It will be used to finalize the fabrication, fit, and construction methods of your style. It is common to request fit or design changes to the first prototype-if this is the case, multiple samples will be required to achieve that final, approved prototype. The prototyping step is also when production pricing is finalized. When you have approved your final prototype, you may be ready to start planning for production.

FITTING

DETERMINE THAT YOUR PROTOTYPE IS EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT BEFORE MOVING FORWARD

Once a prototype is approved for design, it must then be approved for fit.

Our clients may also choose to conduct their fittings themselves and that’s okay with us! Read our blog post on The 3 Big Questions on Fit to ask yourself during an at-home fitting.

Grading

HAVE YOUR SIZE RANGE CREATED

We use Gerber Accumark Software for grading and marker making. After the fit of your prototype is approved, we will digitize your pattern and grade it into each size in your preferred size range.

Size Set Testing

TEST THE FIT OF EVERY SIZE IN YOUR SIZE RUN

After your pattern has been graded, we strongly recommend you have 1 sample made in every size to ensure the fit is correct across your chosen size range. This is also an opportunity to have samples made for a photoshoot.

PRE-PRODUCTION ORDERING

ORDER YOUR MATERIALS IN TIME FOR PRODUCTION

Before production can begin, you will need to ensure all of your materials are delivered to your manufacturer. The prototyping process will tell us how much material it took to make 1 garment. This is called your fabric yield. We will share this information with you so you can know exactly how much fabric and trim needs to be ordered for a successful production run

We are happy to help if you need additional assistance during this process.
